The Gazebo waltz
57The moon was our conductor
on that night
my love
with a spotlight on how we danced
under
the stars above
and in this pavillion
by the lake
with your hands in mine
the music in our heads
was simply divine
but sadly the Gazebo waltz
is just a memory.
The future,
they say,
is not ours
to see.
I went off to war
never
to return
although the Gazebo waltz
is why I yearn
and in my deathless consent
I wait down there
for you
at the pavillion near the lake
in the shadows
for two.
With the marquee
of the moon
in the sky
you can hear
the hushed sound
of this man's cry
and the Gazebo waltz
is how I recall
it's better to have loved
than not at all!

Why do I hear this? "The big baboon by the light of the moon was combing his auburn hair." Maybe I suffer from a dis-associative association disorder.
It is sad, WD . . . not happy.
Love this piece Epigramman! Timeless love--forever love--Beautifully done!!
I agree with your sweet words dear Epi. I would rather love and lose than never have known that incredible feeling. This is a lovely poem and I love when you write romantically.
What a great love story, so sad yet so romantic. Your words take me away to that lovely gazebo under the moon. I can hear the sweet music and feel the weeping of the sad man who had loved and lost. Bravo!
Good for you, Epi! I would love to hear you sing this, I could hear a melody to it!

Colin, I believe I know were you got the inspiration for this one. 'We'll meet again, don't no where, don't know when, but I know we'll meet again some sunny day.' Forgive if mistaken my friend.
Voted up and beautiful. Loved it. So very romantic. What came to my mind were the words... and the band played on...
Dancing in a gaszebo, dear Colin, may have its faults.
If you are humming cha-cha in your head and she's humming waltz.
Lovely romantic tale, such sweet, sad yearning. Another poem from the master.
Epigramman, this is achingly beautiful! Full of romance, longing and meloncholy. Thank you for sharing.
